The Ouija Experiment

Okay, so first of all I went into this expecting complete garbage. I figured that since it's a story about a Ouija board how thrilling con it be? So I put it on in the background and did my best to watch it while completing more important tasks.

I'm going to do my best at making this review as spoiler free as I can in respect for you the reader and potential viewer, and to the films crew for the work that was put into this project.

I was pleasantly surprised by the story of the film. I found myself wanting to look away at parts because I knew some shit was about to go down. Which is something I rarely ever do.

Now for the acting? The cast was 5 characters long not including extras. Two of which were played poorly, but what can you expect with a B-horror?

I'm not a big fan of found footage, so it was hard for me to really get into this, but again...it's not the acting that makes this film worthwhile. It's the writing. A script can make or break a film, and this time around it definitely made it; and in the world of storytelling the writer is king.

As for a synopsis of the plot, the film surrounds 5 friends participating in the use of a Ouija board, one of which is working on his YouTube channel (quite poorly too), and the host of the night goes on to talk about "playing" with the Ouija board, but as any superstitious person knows, you do not "play" with mystical shit.

This is where things get spooky.

The connection the group makes with the spirits gets stronger as the days go by, and their past becomes known the the audience as well as their haunting history.

People die. Girls scream. Shadows move.

Keeping from revealing too much I would have to summarize this film as a decent watch and well worth your time. However, do not go into this with high expectations.

I will be watching the sequel to this soon. Although I have taken a look at it already, and I have low expectations of what will soon be seen.

Now onto the rating. Since I would not make a night of this film it loses one. The acting quality is believable yet laughable, depending on how you look at it. Minus one again. It's a found footage flick, but the cinematography is not dizzying, so plus one. The script is what really makes this spooky so that grants another plus.

As for my personal opinion...

Meh. I'm on the fence but I won't recommend against watching it.  Sooooo...plus one.

If I do the math right that gives The Ouija Experiment three out of five kills.

It's not a fantastic film, but it's also not horrible. Check it out, give it a shot, and let us know what you think in the comments section.
